Essential Maintenance – #1 in an occasional series

“Our time here on Earth is a learning experience and no one is exempt!”

It’s true that the older we get, the more experience we gain, some is by trial and error, the best is by learning from our more experienced compatriots. Over the coming weeks I plan to share some of the smaller, but no less useful, snippets of information that I have gathered in my time.

Ever tried closing the door but it becomes a little harder to do each time? Think you may need to sand a bit off the top? Probably not. If the door used to close the issue is probably with the hinge. If you can hold the door and there is a small amount of movement then just try tightening the hinges. The problem can occur when the screw just spins in place, there is no wood left for it to “bite” on. Simple solution! Just remove the offending screw, and push a sliver of wood into the opening, a previously lit match is ideal. This bulks out the screw hole and give the screw some purchase. Job done!
